"Apple has agreed to pay $450,000 to settle claims it improperly dealt with e-waste at facilities in Cupertino and Sunnyvale," reports Roger Fingas for appleinsider, citing the California Environmental Protection Agency.

"The incidents conflict with the public image Apple has crafted for itself, which depict it as one of the most environmentally responsible companies in the world," says Fingas.

Apple also has a dodgy record when it comes to the right-to-repair; although it does outperform its competitors when it comes to cost of ownership.

Apple isn't immune to the pressures of e-waste recycling. These infractions make that clear. Even recyclers with free labor can't compete.
